Senate follows up House effort to ban the tan

Legislation being pushed by medical groups to prohibit those younger than 18 from using tanning beds moved through the General Assembly.
On Tuesday, a Senate version of the House bill was introduced by Sen. Tommy Tucker, a Republican from Union County.
Many of the top medical associations support the bill.
“Even a single use of a tanning bed increases a user’s chances of developing melanoma by 20 percent,” N.C. Dermatology Association President Dr. Susan Sanders said. “And young people who begin indoor tanning before they are 35 increase their odds of getting melanoma by almost 90 percent.”
