Skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States. More than 2 million cases diagnosed each year, according to the American Cancer Society, many of these could be prevented by protecting from Sun exposure. However, the top-notch European sunscreen that has been used overseas for years is not available to Americans.
The best sunscreens that Europeans have been using for years remain banned from the U.S. stores due to 8 ingredients waiting approval from the FDA. These 8 ingredients that make sunscreen superior in blocking against the suns most harmful rays have been waiting approval or denial for the past 12 years.
The House Energy and Commerce Committee is looking at legislation that would hurry the FDA’s approval process for sunscreen ingredients. This Sunscreen Innovation Act makes two changes to the approval process. First, it would institute an eight-month deadline for the FDA to make a decision instead of the current review process that lacks a mandatory end date.
Second, it would no long longer require the FDA to issue a regulation every time it wants to approve an ingredient.
